Abbreviations on the web
What used to belong to the younger generations has now become more
popular. Instant messaging, social networks and the Internet era on
mobile phones have led to abbreviations when writing,
which little by little have been gaining their own meaning and can now
be considered slang.
This is demonstrated by the fact that anyone already knows what LOL
means (Laughing Out Loud, something like laughing out
loud), but beware: there are many more abbreviations that populate
the network and that are already a matter of a smaller group of people.
. We are going to see some of these expressions, which will help us in
the event that one day we enter certain websites or receive emails where
the written correction is conspicuous by its absence.
Express lesson: 18 abbreviations to survive in forums and
social networks
- IMHO(In My Humble Opinion, in my
humble opinion) usually goes before opinions in a debate, to
emphasize that what we are going to say is simply a personal opinion
without claiming to defend it as an absolute truth.
- 1337(from LEET, short for Elite)
marks any person or action that has been done with great skill. It
is used a lot in games, to point out someone who has achieved
achievements or unusually high scores.
- REKT(abbreviation for Wrecked), comes
to be something like a Zas, in all the mouth when some
opinion is falsifyingly falsified. Try not to use it with your boss
if you don't want unnecessary tensions. Sometimes the compound form
GET REKT is used.
- PWND (short for PWNED and OWNED),
is another way of saying REKT. In Spanish, the translation PWNEADO,
or OWNEADO has become popular, especially in games.
- BRB (Be Right Back, I'll be right
back), is the perfect way to tell our friend that you need to go to
the bathroom without mentioning that specific need.
- AFK (Away From Keyboard, away from
the keyboard) is usually said when someone has not answered a work
email or chat for a while. It also appears in some states, to
indicate that we are absent.
- BBL (Be Back Later) is like a BRB,
but where we take a little longer to return.
- WTF (What The Fuck) has become the
universal way of expressing surprise or confusion when we find
something we didn't expect or understand. A bit strong, but we don't
like niceties at the net. Some prefer to use WTH, What the Hell,
to save swearing.
- OMG (Oh My God, oh my God) is
another form of surprise but used in things that are usually
considered possible. Like when two co-workers start a platonic
relationship.
- VBD (Very Big Deal), points to
something or someone as really relevant. We could say that it is an
equivalent to the VIP of a lifetime.
- YSVW (You're So Very Welcome, from
nadísima) can be used to indicate that we are very, very happy to
have been able to help someone. Like our bosses, for example. YGTI.
- YGTI (You Get The Idea, you get the
idea) is usually used when we see that what we want to explain has
not been done with the best words but you check with people's faces
that they understand exactly what you want them to understand.
- ASAP (As Soon As Possible). When
someone sends you an email assigning you a task and adds an ASAP,
drop whatever you're doing and get on with it.
- OKTHXBYE (Ok, Thanks, Good Bye) is
the perfect abbreviation when we have to tell a colleague that we
agree with something, thank him for his work and say goodbye just
when it's time to go home. The eight letters that we like to write
the most when closing.
- TL;DR (Too Long; Didn't Read, too
long, I haven't read it). If someone sends us an email whose length
is equivalent to Fifty Shades of Grey, we can weigh the
use of that abbreviation at the risk of offending the sender.
- GTG (Got to Go, I have to go). If in
the internal chat of your company there is someone who abuses it too
much, be suspicious.
- MFW (My Face When, my face when). It
is usually accompanied by an image, to adequately indicate how we
have stayed after realizing something.
- ROFL (Rolling on Floor Laughing,
rolling around on the floor laughing) is a classic with which we end
this list. A LOL come to more, to make it clear that what we have
seen has made us very, very funny.
