What is Engineering?

Engineering is the application of methods of scientific or empirical knowledge aimed at the use of material and natural resources for the benefit of human beings.

It is the area of knowledge that addresses the concepts of projection, development, construction, analysis and maintenance of alternatives that help and facilitate the life of society in everyday activities.

The word engineering comes from the Latin ingenium, which means “to produce or generate talent, or inborn quality”. Initially, it was applied to any mechanical equipment, especially in the military area.

Engineering can also be the profession in which the technical training of scientific knowledge is acquired for the creation, improvement and implementation of utilities that are functional for the life of the human being. In this process, it brings together other specialized branches, where each one acts with more emphasis on its specific field of application, with its technological particularities.

The professional who works in this area is called an engineer. Its function is to materialize solutions that solve problems and satisfy human needs, using the technique and knowledge acquired in its training.

Types of Engineering

Because it is an area that uses a lot of technical knowledge, such as calculus, chemistry, physics, among others, it is common to admit that engineering is linked to the area of Exact Sciences, in addition to contemplating several branches of knowledge.

Civil Engineering

It is one of the best known areas of engineering. It is the part dedicated to the design, construction, management and maintenance of all services linked to the infrastructure produced for the development and well-being of society.

Production engineering

It is responsible for managing human, financial and material resources to ensure the company’s productivity.

Mechanical Engineering

Part of engineering that takes care of the creation, development, construction and maintenance of machines and equipment in general.

Environmental engineering

Engineering area focused on sustainable development, that is, that is concerned with the limits of nature’s resources.

Electrical engineering

Segment present in all aspects of engineering involving energy production, from generation, transmission, transport and distribution to residential and commercial establishments.

Food Engineering

It is the part that uses techniques used in the manufacture, conservation, transport and storage of foods of animal and plant origin.
