Hydrology is a science that studies the properties and behavior of water on and below the Earth’s surface and in the atmosphere; study of the water. In a general sense, the science that studies the water on Earth. In a specific sense, the science concerned with the presence and movements of water on and above the Earth’s surface. The most important processes in this regard are precipitation , evaporation and transpiration , currents and groundwater movements. Hydrology has to do with water. The following definition is often used: Hydrology is the study of the origin, occurrence, behavior, and chemical and physical properties of water in all its manifestations on and below the Earth’s surface, excluding water in the seas and oceans.
Just like meteorology, oceanography and seismological research, part of geophysics, Hydrology is a science concerned with the study of the chemical and physical properties, distribution, behavior and circulation of water . The distribution of water on earth (97% seawater, 2% land ice, 1% precipitation and groundwater) is also studied and it is investigated which laws govern the exchange of water in the various reservoirs.
