The concept of telecommunication encompasses all forms of distance communication. The word includes the Greek prefix tele, which means “distance” or “far.” As such, telecommunication is a technique that consists of transmitting a message from one point to another, usually with the added value of being bidirectional. Telephony, radio, television and data transmission through computers are part of the telecommunications sector.

Telecommunications is a part of the area of ​​electrical engineering that aims to create a distance communication for human communication. In other words, a telecommunications company aims to provide everything necessary for people to be able to communicate at a distance.

It was the English physicist James Clerk Maxwell who laid the foundations for the development of telecommunication, by introducing the concept of electromagnetic wave to describe through mathematics the interaction between electricity and magnetism. That said, Maxwell claimed that it was possible to propagate waves through free space using electrical discharges, something that would be proved by Heinrich Hertz in 1887.

The history of telecommunications began to develop in the first half of the 19th century, with the electric telegraph (which allowed sending messages with letters and numbers). Later, the telephone appeared, which added the possibility of communicating using voice. With radio waves, wireless communication has arrived to make a real revolution in the habits of humanity.

Distance communication, as telecommunication is also called (thus omitting its prefix tele which has the meaning of “distance” or “far”), had, for many years, fixed telephony as a strong element. However, it is still important today.

However, what has been the flagship of many companies today is telephony and mobile internet. Only in Brazil are there more active mobile lines than people, and this type of service can reach even more urban areas where other systems are not available.

As technology is something fundamental in the lives of people and companies, telecommunications is something extremely crucial for a country. Because the long-distance communication flow comprises a high data transmission.

Within the telecommunications system there are several classifications with different specifications here we have some examples:

– Commercial: comprising companies that provide charged communication services, such as mobile phone companies;

– Governmental: this is the one used by the government for non-commercial purposes, for example we have the communication system that is used in the police department.

And we also have amateur and private telecommunications systems, among others.

There is no doubt that technological innovations in the area of ​​telecommunications did not stop there, as they are a constant and do not stop making waves. The modem made it possible to transmit data between computers and other devices, thus constituting the starting point for the development of the Internet and other computer networks.

Today, telecommunications are an integral part of an industrial branch that annually moves millions of euros around the world.
